The Emergency Network to Save Cook County Health Services
Goals:
The Emergency Network to Save Cook County Health Services aims to restore availability and access to high quality health care services provided by Cook County Bureau of Health Services, including the focus on community, prevention, and early intervention; to assure adequate funding to maintain service levels and expand services as demand increases; and to improve efficacy in the governance and provision of services.
Strategy:
The establishment of an Emergency Trusteeship is the blueprint for restoring faith and public trust in the Cook County Health Care system.
The Emergency Trusteeship ordinance is being carried by 13th District Commissioner Larry Suffredin. The proposal would allow for immediate internal reforms, greater accountability, and recruitment of qualified senior leadership by establishing the Cook County Bureau of Health Trusteeship ("CCBOHT") for a term of three years.
Taxpayers must believe and see that the system is being managed and administered competently, transparently and without political interference. To do so, the health system should be removed from the political fray and administered by a temporary trusteeship that can act boldly to avert the immediate crisis and enact fundamental reforms.
