Cook system needs $103 million, more workers, chief says
The new independent board overseeing Cook County's vast public health system wants an extra $103 million next year and permission to hire more than 400 new workers.
The panel's chairman is defending the request as a needed first step before the troubled operation can be made more efficient, with fewer employees and more money collected from patients and their insurers.

The Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board of Directors held its fourth meeting on Thursday, August 7th. The following is a brief summary of the new Health Board's meeting:
David Small, Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, reported that the Illinois Department of Public Health had not reached a reaccreditation decision regarding the perinatal program at Stroger Hospital, due to concerns raised during previous evaluations that had still not been addressed.
Update on July 23rd meeting from Emergency Network
The Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board of Directors held its third meeting on Friday, July 23rd. The following is a brief summary of the new Health Board's meeting:
Dr. Couture from Cermak Health Services tendered her resignation as the Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Avery Hart, a friend of the Emergency Network, was named as the Interim Chief.
Full Board Confirmed for Cook County Bureau of Health
Four more members were approved for the Cook County Board of Health on May 28th. The approved candidates were: Dr. David Ansell, Dr. Luis Munoz, Sister Sheila Lyne, and Warren Batts.
The confirmed 11 member board is as follows:
