Public meetings of the Board of Directors of the Health and Hospitals System will be held on the following dates

• Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 7:30 A.M.
• Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 7:30 A.M.
• Friday, December 5, 2008 at 7:30 A.M.
• Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 7:30 A.M.

The Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board of Directors held its third meeting on Friday, July 23rd. The following is a brief summary of the new Health Board's meeting:

Dr. Couture from Cermak Health Services tendered her resignation as the Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Avery Hart, a friend of the Emergency Network, was named as the Interim Chief.

This final ordinance expands the interim board to 11 positions including one for the chair of the Health and Hospitals committee, currently Commissioner Jerry Butler. Read the full ordinance, attached below, for details.

Chaired by Larry Suffredin, the legislative committee of the Cook County Board of Commissioners met on May 13 to consider the nine candidates recommended by President Stroger.

The committee was informed that Norman Bobins had withdrawn his name from consideration. The committee proceeded to interview the remaining candidates.

Rejected were:

The Task Force on Hospital Governance that was scheduled to convene on February 6th at 9 a.m. to consider recommendations for "independent" governance was postponed until after the February 29th deadline for passage of 2008 County budget.  When pressed to explain Commisioner Goslin said that new governance options need not be considered along with the budget.
